Another book review in the books! F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby (1925) is a timeless masterpiece, still beloved by readers nearly a century later. Adapted into various forms, from films—most notably the 2013 version starring Leonardo DiCaprio—to Broadway shows and operas, this classic resonates with every generation.

The novel is narrated by Nick Carraway, set during the Jazz Age on Long Island. It follows the mysterious Jay Gatsby, who throws extravagant parties to win back his former love, Daisy Buchanan. The term "Gatsbying" has even become modern slang for throwing flashy events to impress others—much like social media posts designed to show off.

I first read the book and watched the 2013 film in high school, and both perfectly captured the Jazz Age's glamour and melancholy. As a Lana Del Rey fan, the film’s use of her song “Young and Beautiful” during the dance scene stood out to me—it was emotional and stunning. The book and movie do an amazing job of conveying not only the glitz of the era but also the deep emotional struggles of the characters.
